TETHYS GENERAL ASSEMBLY- UNIVERSIDADA AUTONOMA DE MADRID

We are pleased to announce that the next General Assembly of the TETHYS Consortium will take place at the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid, Cantoblanco campus, Madrid, Spain from 22 to 23 May 2024:
Wednesday 22 May 2024: The General Assembly will begin at 2pm with an opening address by :
- Ms Amaya Mendikoetxea, President of the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid,
- Mr Slim Khalbous, Rector of the Agence Universitaire de la Francophonie,
- Jean-François Marchi, Vice-President of Aix-Marseille University.

The afternoon will then be dedicated to a round table discussion on the subject of "Euro-Mediterranean cooperation networks in higher education", with the kind presence of :

- Slim Khalbous, Rector of the Agence Universitaire de la Francophonie (AUF),
- Mr Houcine Azeddoug, President of Hassan II University, Casablanca, Morocco (tbc),
- Irene Martin-Cortes, Vice-President of International Relations at the Autonomous University of Madrid, Spain,
- Mr Jean-François Marchi, Vice-President in charge of International Relations at Aix-Marseille University, France,
- Olivier Boiron, Executive Director of the Mediterranean Network of Engineering and Management Schools (RMEI), Director of International Relations at Ecole Centrale Méditerranée, France (tbc),
- Marcello Scalisi, Director of the Union of Mediterranean Universities (UNIMED),
- Mr João Lobo, Analysis Adviser for Higher Education and Research at the Union for the Mediterranean (UPM).

The day will conclude with a buffet dinner at 7.30pm.

Thursday 23 May 2024: The second day of the General Assembly will take place at the Casa Árabe in Madrid. In the morning, participants will be able to choose between a workshop on "Francophonie Scientifique: Synergy and Opportunities", in collaboration with the AUF, or a workshop on climate change in English.
After a meal in the gardens of the Casa Árabe, participants will attend a lecture by Wolfgang Cramer, Member of the Governance of the Institut Méditerranéen pour la Transition Environnementale (ITEM) Aix-Marseille Université, Director of Research at the CNRS at the Institut Méditerranéen de Biodiversité et d'Ecologie Marine et Continentale (IMBE), and winner of the Nobel Peace Prize in 2007.
The AGM will conclude at 4.30pm.

Friday 24 May 2024: A visit to the Thyssen-Bornemisza Museum is planned by prior arrangement.

A doctoral workshop is organised, bringing together doctoral students from universities belonging to the Téthys network, mainly in Morocco, Lebanon and Tunisia, with the presence of several climate change experts, including Marie Laure Lambert, co-president of GREC-Sud and a doctor in public environmental law. The Workshop will focus on the following topic: "What initiatives can Mediterranean universities undertake to meet the challenge of climate change?
