Sustainable Development Goals Day

The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), otherwise known as the Global Goals, are a universal call to action to end poverty, protect the planet and ensure that all people enjoy peace and prosperity.

These 17 Goals build on the successes of the Millennium Development Goals, while including new areas such as climate change, economic inequality, innovation, sustainable consumption, peace and justice, among other priorities. The goals are interconnected – often the key to success on one will involve tackling issues more commonly associated with another.

Our territory has grown an important network of professional and academic expertise. Aix-Marseille University (AMU), The Research Institute for Development (IRD) and the French Agency for Development (AFD), have initiated a new “international campus for development label” in 2016: an innovative summer school programme about the role of scientists and the contribution science brings to SDGs implementation. The second SDGs summer school will take place from July the 2nd to July the 6th, 2018. It will be focused on SDG 13, dedicated to combatting climate changes and its relations to other SDG. To prepare the second summer school, the 7th of July, 2017 meeting will gather high level experts on climate changes, poverty and inequalities.

Will be present among others:

Hindou Oumarou Ibrahim, coordinator of The Association for Indigenous Women and Peoples of Chad (AFPAT)

Jean-Paul Moatti, president of the IRD, member of the international expert group in charge of redacting the UNO report on sustainable development in 2019 (GSDR)
