IEMED seminars on scientific cooperation in the Mediterranean region

The Tethys network, represented here by Camille de Garidel Thoron, attended the annual seminar organized by IEMED, which is supported by several university master’s programs.

The event, held in Barcelona on the 19th to 20th of February 2024, explored various interdisciplinary research themes focused on the Euro-Mediterranean region. The topics covered higher education, migration, artificial intelligence, gender perspectives, historical narratives and diplomatic relations. The first day began with welcome speeches followed by discussions on Euro-Mediterranean cooperation in higher education. An award ceremony was held to reward the best master's theses. The day was rounded off with a discussion on research trends in the Mediterranean, with a particular focus on cooperation and innovation.

The second day was dedicated to future challenges and prospects in the Mediterranean. It was organized around sessions addressing different Mediterranean themes such as the political participation of migrant, sovereign wealth funds in the region, and the ethical dilemmas surrounding artificial intelligence. The workshops also examined the themes of gender, slavery, sustainability and historical narratives, offering diversified perspectives on Mediterranean dynamics.

The seminar concluded by underscoring the significance of regional cooperation and historical diplomatic interactions in fostering stability and advancement in the Mediterranean region.
